Saturday night, September 16th I found myself at the Megadeth and Biohazard show at Foxwoods with my buddy Pecker (thanks Diane for the ticket hookup). As usual, good times were had.
Am I a big Biohazard fan? Not really. It’s not that I dislike them, it’s just that musically, our paths never really crossed. I knew about them, but never really listened to them, but this was a good tour to catch them on because it was the full original lineup. Evan Seinfeld may be a name you’re familiar with whether it be because he’s Jerry Seinfeld’s 2nd cousin, you’ve followed his music career, or maybe you followed his porn career. He was married to porn star Tera Patrick for a while and has been part of that biz for quite some time. But let’s the discuss the music instead of the porn.

Urban Discipline was their opener followed by Shades of Grey. During the next tune, Down For Life Evan stated “Where’s my mosh pit guys!?” to the crowd. This is something you’d normally hear at a metal show right? But this show was inside the Foxwoods Premier Theater which is all seating. There is no general admission or standing section where a group could possibly mosh so this made me laugh a bit. But a bit later in the set, as they clearly realized this, they had the guitarist (Billy I believe) head down to the floor just in front of the first row of seats and run around in a circle to start his little mosh pit for one. I think a couple fans joined him, but it was short lived.

They brought a lot of energy to the show and it was kind of cool to hear an opener acknowledge “it’s our job to get your warmed up for Megadeth!” They played about 10 songs total, lasting an hour or so, and ended their set with Hold My Own. The real treat was next.
Love him or hate him, Dave Mustaine kicks ass. He IS Megadeth. Interestingly enough, I learned just before their set that guitarist Kiko Loureiro abruptly stepped away from the band only 10 days prior to this show for a family issue he has to deal with. Teemu Mäntysaari was brought on as his temporary replacement on September 6, and I believe this was only his 5th show…and you’d never know it. This dude played all the tunes like it was nothing, doing both rhythm and lead as needed, including solos and backup vocals. The dude didn’t even seem nervous at all. It was pretty impressive. He can definitely shred.

Hangar 18 opened their set and of course it was awesome. The whole night was awesome with a setlist full of some of their greatest songs. Dread and the Fugitive Mind, Angry Again, Wake Up Dead, In My Darkest Hour, She-Wolf, and Sweating Bullets was only the first half of the show. Dave was sounding great, the band was tight, and the crowd was loving it.
The second half of the show brought more ass kickery with the likes of Dystopia, We’ll Be Back, Trust (a personal fav), A tout le monde (another personal fav), Tornado of Souls, Symphony of Destruction, and Peace Sells. By this time, it was about 10:45 p.m. and I knew they’d have at least one more, and I was hopeful for two more. But it was one, and it was Holy Wars.
This was the 4th or 5th time I’ve seen Megadeth, and at least the 3rd time seeing them with Pecker. We both agreed that this was the best show yet. Kick ass show!

Their set was very cool. Being inside a theater, there’s no opportunity for pyros and anything super elaborate, but the 4 giant screens surrounding the drum kit is a nice addition. With video, you can make the set whatever you want it to be. And let’s face it, Dave has been around forever. He knows what he’s doing and he’s surrounded by pros.
