So I’m a little late with this one, but I was thinking about how so many good concerts are all on hold now. Who knows what the future of live music will look like after all this COVID19 stuff is over (if ever).
Anyway, on December 7, 2019 I saw Alanis Morissette at Foxwoods in CT. I believe this is was only 1 of 2 stops and she had just announced her tour with Garbage that morning. I wonder what will come of that tour. I think this show was merely a warm-up.
Alanis was great. Yes, she’s aged but she can still rock. Though maybe she needs some dance lessons. Lol.
There was no opening act, just Alanis all night which was cool. She played for shy of 2 hours and went through all the hits and more. I’ve seen several shows at the Foxwoods Grand Theater and all the artists comment how they love the sound there. While I agree, I have one complaint….It’s not loud enough. On several occasions during this show you could barely hear Alanis over the singing crowd. No fault of Alanis, but very annoying. I didn’t pay to hear a bunch of drunk people sing her music, I wanted to hear her. I’m not sure why it was more prominent at this show over others – perhaps it was a bad sound engineer on duty that night. But it was annoying.
The times I could hear Alanis, she was great. Voice hasn’t budged over the years and her harmonica skills haven’t faded either. I appreciate the rare harmonica in rock tunes and captured a video of “All I Really Want” for that reason.
During “Ironic” she updated the song for the times in one section, “It’s like meeting the man of your dreams, and then meeting his beautiful husband.” It didn’t flow as good, but I get what she was going for.
Overall, she was great. But the crowd and venue made it disappointing.
