I’m such a slacker on this one! This show was on Wednesday Oct 29th at the Strand Theater in Providence. Such a slacker! Anyway, it was awesome!

Let’s see what I remember. We laughed, we rocked, we saw lots of rude hand gestures, and we laughed some more. This band in case you don’t know, while not an 80s hair band, exhibits all the stereotypes of an 80s hair band in a comedic way, with a ton of talent, and a full 80s sunset strip backstory. They have character names straight from the cheesy 80s including Michael Star (vocals), Satchel (guitar), Stix (of course drums!), and Spyder on bass.
Their songs are always hilarious (while musically awesome), and the bantering in between songs is fantastic!
The Lowlives opened the show. Decent rock band from England, good sound, but it was difficult to hear the vocals. I could hear the overall tone but I personally couldn’t make out a single word. This made me nervous for Steel Panther since their lyrics are what makes the songs what they are. Luckily they had no issues.

Steel Panther took the stage and started with Eyes of a Panther. Michael Starr comes onto to the stage with a David Lee Roth style high kick, then immediately feigns a back injury. First of 1000 jokes for the night. Let Me Come In was after that and I think a 3rd song that I forgot to write down, so now I have no idea. What I do know is throughout the night there was plenty of bantering taking place, with over the top sex stories, hand and tongue gestures, and so much more.
Asian Hooker and Friends With Benefits were played as well and the songs are as filthy and funny as you’d expect with those titles.
Like a proper 80s rock band, Satchel did a bad ass guitar solo (Click the link! Do it!) for several minutes with complete 80s shredding style. The solo turned into Turn Out the Lights with some great lyrics that you’ll have to look up.

As usual, they find a woman to bring on stage and “make up” a song about her. Tonight was “Liv” and she wasn’t shy at all, hopping right up stage, sitting in the stool, grabbing and hugging the dudes in the band and “adjusting” the ole ta-tas whenever she had a chance to make them part of the show. She kept them covered though, while the band encouraged her not to. All four members sang some pretty hilariously messed up lyrics to her and then they went into Weenie Ride while she remained on stage. Yep. The song is as exactly as the title suggests.

They invited other women on stage for the next one encouraging anyone to come up who wanted to. The women who went up became stage props for 17 Girls in a Row. Many were sloppy drunks, with one in particular being the sloppiest of drunks and I wonder if the people she came with took video to show her what a mess she was the next day. They kept them up for some Death to All But Metal (a great song!). They started remcing the ladies from the stage during this tune but kept one to do some singing and she was pretty bad ass! When the song was over, Satchel said, “make some noise for all the beautiful girls!” The crowd cheered. “And the ugly ones too!” The crowd laughed and cheered.
They ended the night with their biggest songs. Community Property, with Michael Star on acoustic guitar for the intro, and Glory Hole. Yep, just as the title suggests and hilarious.

You definitely have to appreciate raunchy humor, kick ass guitars, and solid rock tunes to enjoy these guys. If you’re up tight and take life too seriously, this show isn’t for you!
This was my 3rd time seeing them and I’ll see them again for sure if the chance arises.
